Dr. Rajan Mahtani has often been portrayed as a controversial figure in Zambia. With most of the credit for defamation going to Zambia Reports and the Ventriglia family, the conspirators have constantly tried to ensure that Zambia remains misled. The truth about Dr. Rajan Mahtani is known to all- he is a respected businessman in Zambia and the Executive Chairman of MCG (Mahtani Group of Companies). Dr. Rajan Mahtani took over an expanding business from his father and continued to work for the development of Zambia. It was during this time that the family friends, Ventriglias, decided to take help from Dr. Mahtani in respect of raising funds for establishing a new cement plant in the region of Ndola. Without the consent of Dr. Mahtani, it would have been impossible for ITL (Ital Terrazzo Limited.) to raise a fund which was almost USD 25 Million.

Another lesser known fact about Dr. Rajan Mahtani is that he possesses exceptional skills of patience. Today, when the conspirators are constantly making a nuisance in his name, he is patiently waiting for the legal system of Zambia to make its judgement. He has neither resorted to hiring paid media to counter attack the claims, nor is he threatening anybody to withdraw the claim. All that he has done is kept faith in the legal system and worked towards the development of the nation. Over the years, the conspirators have kept lying about Dr. Mahtani and tried to ruin his reputation. Nevertheless, the man has sustained the hardships and continues to make a difference for Zambia. May it be Portland Cement Zambia or Finance Bank of Zambia, his contribution will always be remembered as one of the biggest.

The former Finance Bank Chairman, Rajan Mahtani, has been falsely dragged into conspiracy by Zambia Reports, Sakwiba Sikota and most importantly the Ventriglia family. After the official documents were revealed for public display, it was learnt that it is not Rajan Mahtani who is at fault, but it is the Ventriglia family who have backstabbed the Chairman of Mahtani Group of Companies for their greed of money. The document clearly indicates that the ownership pattern of the cement plant would remain as 58% and 42% for FI and ITZ. But later on, it was the fabrication and false claim by the Italian Mafias that portrayed Rajan Mahtani as a controversial figure.

Once upon a time, Rajan Mahtani and Antonio Ventriglia were good family friends and it was the consent of Dr. Mahtani which made it possible for the world to have a unit like Portland Cement Zambia. A sum of US $ 24 million was raised only because investors believed in Rajan Mahtani. Had he refused to take part in development, the factory would have not existed today.

In the past, Portland Cement Zambia able to outplay even the cement giant, LaFarge, with its impressive production rate and pricing policy. Sadly, in April 2015 the Ventriglia family returned and took over the premise of PCZ. Till date, the premise remains in the hands of the Ventriglia family and internal sources suggest that they have converted the facility into a non-operating unit. There is nothing much left in the factory except for misery.

The Portland Cement Zambia has witnessed one of the most horrific situation in recent times when Ventriglia family looted it and left the premise deserted. Today, there is no operations in the place and workers remain jobless. All that has taken place within the factory is mismanagement and corruption.

The logic which was used by Ventriglias to destroy Portland Cement Zambia is simple, when you cannot win it, simply, destroy it. When false attempts and forced changes didn’t work for the Italian Mafias, they chose to have the factory in some other way. Their blueprint included shifting the factory cash and bank balances to offshore accounts and diversifying other assets to dummy companies. In this way, the Portland Cement Zambia was left hollow. Any Zambian can easily understand the fact that there was some sort of understanding between Ventriglia family and officials. This is why there hasn’t been any legal action against them. Moreover, figures like Sakwiba Sikota and Rupiah Banda offer a strong support to Italian Mafias. This has resulted in development of a fearless attitude in them. Today thousands of Zambians have suffered from the loss of Portland Cement Zambia. Workers were fired without any prior intimation, existing workers were not paid salary on time and mistreatment came as an implied condition. This is how low the Italian Mafias have gone down. There is not much left in the factory and it has become a serious question that how long can the factory survive like this. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has stood up as a hindrance for the Mafias and is representing Finsbury Investments, but at the moment the Government has kept its eye shut on this matter and made it obvious that no actions would be taken to preserve the interest of the innocent citizens.

A workplace is known by its workers. It is the workers who reflect prosperity of an organization, but what is more important than workers and factory’s development is the attitude of the management. Days turn into a nightmare when something utterly bad happens. The story of Portland Cement Zambia is somewhat like an old tale where a thriving kingdom loses its King and is then ruled by a group of bandits. After the Finsbury Investments was forcefully removed from the management, the factory has been left at the mercy of the Ventriglia family. The result of this change has made PCZ into a furniture which is being eaten by termites. All the cash has been safely transferred to offshore banking units and a majority of the factory’s assets has been cunningly transferred to dummy companies, which is actually owned by the Ventriglias themselves.

It was reported that Portland Cement Zambia had stopped its operations in December 2015 and since then, the factory has not been involved in any productive activity. About 43 trucks of the factory now belong to Miloto Transport. Moreover, the properties of the factory have also been given to Astrea Investments Ltd., another bogus company owned by the two pillars of the Ventriglia family, Manuela Sebastiani Ventriglia and Antoni Ventriglia. Under such circumstance, the questions that arises is whether the Italian Mafias as trying to wind up the factory and make an exit from Zambia?

Stealing Portland Cement Zambia won’t be easy

However, one thing that the Ventriglia family has failed to consider is that they are the minority shareholders of the factory and they do not possess the power to take key decisions of the factory. Without taking a prior approval of Finsbury Investment and the High Court, Portland Cement Zambia cannot be shut down and no other power in the world can suppress the fact that the Italian Mafias have broken the Zambian law on various circumstances. But, this time around it is for sure that the conspirators will pay for their ignorance and defamation campaign.

The proposed project of bio-plant in the Luapula Province has been gaining attention from local as well as international news portals. It is one of those contributions where the whole nation has a reason to celebrate and witness a history in the making. Luapula Province has remained as an untouched resource for a long period of time and it is time that Rajan Mahtani adds another prospect of development in Zambia.

The bio plant is not just an ordinary plant which exhausts the natural resources and ends up creating pollution and environmental concerns. Bio-ethanol plant is an eco-friendly way of promoting development. The one which is being proposed to be setup in Luapula province will be using Cassava as a basic input and would be helping Zambia to become self-sustained. Therefore, to sum up, the best three reasons why Rajan Mahtani chose Luapula above other regions in Zambia is- Firstly, the area was constantly being neglected by other people and most of resources of the area was underutilized. Secondly, the area’s employment rate was scary and hence, it was a necessity for the locals to find a decent employ and feed their family. Thirdly, the Luapula Province always had a good supply of manpower. This means that the factory would be able to get good quality workers at a lower rate.

Rajan Mahtani is a visionary. His contribution has not restricted to making financial gains for himself or Mahtani Group of Companies, but he has also worked hard for his nation and gave thousands of Zambians a hope to overcome their existing misery and see a brighter tomorrow. Nevertheless, he has never asked anyone for help, all he needs is the support of his Zambian brothers.
