Portland Cement Zambia is a cement manufacturing factory which was established with the objective of producing cement for domestic production. There are only a few industrial plants within the nation and cement is an essential element for any construction project. Therefore, the cement factory played an essential part within the construction industry of Zambia, providing cement for development of residential buildings, infrastructure and related essential projects which helped in improving the socio-economic status of the country. During the leadership of Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the cement manufacturing factory produced in excess, making it one of the highest producers of cement within Zambia. Furthermore, the factory was also providing above-industry wages to its employees and workers, improving their lives as well as the lifestyle of the communities within the province as well.
However, the current condition of the factory is in despair as without any leadership, the factory production has gone downhill and system is almost ruined. Majority of the workers have either left the factory or are working without wages or salaries for many months now. Furthermore, the factory assets have started to corrode and the factory cash box has been emptied by scrupulous individuals and groups. The factory is in dire state and experts fear if this state is not changed soon, the revival of the factory will be next to impossible. As a result, majority of those associated with the case were eagerly waiting for the final decision.
Even the judge handling the case made a positive announcement when the case hearing was closed and parties were asked to submit their evidences based on which final judgment was to be given. However, the final judgment was a shocking one as Dr. Rajan Mahtani lost the case. Notwithstanding this injustice, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has now made an appeal to the higher court of Zambia wherein he has requested intervention from higher authorities regarding this case.
