Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, in his latest interview with Mast Newspaper, stated that he is happy that the Zambian government has finally taken a step toward the cruel practice of death penalty. In his statement, Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that the trend toward abolishing death penalty has grown significantly across the globe and this trend can be seen across Zambia too. As such, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has praised the recent decision made by the President of Zambia. On the occasion of Africa Day, which is a significant event for the entire continent, President Hakainde Hichilema announced his quest towards abolishing death penalty. Adding his voice towards the decision, Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that the killing of the convicts does provide any solution for the Zambian government. Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Prison Fellowship will provide full legal and regulatory support towards abolishing death penalty. This requires looking into tangible legal and regulatory reforms. Dr. Mahtani further stated that it is one aspect to plan abolishment of death penalty, but it is a whole new dimension when it comes to making it a reality as this requires significant legal reforms. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has praised the Zambian President by stating that only an individual who is compassionate, respects the rule of the law, respects the need for human dignity and fundamental human rights as well as and the individual who respects the requirement toward ending this inhumane, degrading and cruel punishment will be able to make a such bold yet unwavering decision. President Hakainde Hichilema was further praised by Dr. Rajan Mahtani for respecting the right to live. According to Mahtani, it will be a reward from God for blessing the people of Zambia as well as the nation of Zambia. From a religious viewpoint, death penalty is also considered unethical and as such, the decision from the Zambian President is praised highly by Dr. Rajan Mahtani and others, with the promise of full legal and regulatory support.
