After months of speculations and rumors, the Supreme Court Zambia finally announced the verdict of the ongoing case between Finance Bank Zambia and Simaata Simaata. Finance Bank is one of the top known banks in Zambia, established by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. The businessman is known for his honest and ethical trade and a true believer in the nation. Both Dr. Mahtani and Finance Bank have received many awards for their achievements over the past few decades. Simaata, on the other hand, is a known critic of Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his companies. He has been known to collaborate with other major conspirators and create fake campaigns against the businessman.
Zambia is a developing nation wherein people are still not exposed to fundamental rights such as good financial or healthcare services, public amenities etc. In such scenario, Finance Bank has been a boon to the local residents, providing loan and financial opportunities so that they can fulfill their various aims. Many Finance Bank customers have been able to start business, build homes, by vehicles etc with support from the bank. Therefore, the news of the bank engaged in fraud and unethical practices was a complete shocker to everyone. The news started and spread like a fire across the entire nation. This also prompted other conspirators who were looking for stories, to simultaneously attack the bank as well as Dr. Rajan Mahtani. All this created a massive backlash from customers and clients.
Banks belong to a sophisticated sector where the business is heavily influenced by reputation of the firm. Bad reputation resulted in loss of customers, clients and businesses for the bank. This is when Finance Bank took the step of launching case against Simaata at the Supreme Court Zambia. The court case went on for months and on July 2017, the judges finally gave their verdict. Simaata was charged guilty of the charges by Finance Bank and was also asked to pay penalty for trying to destroy the bank’s reputation based on false pretexts.
