Present Hakainde Hichilema to completely abolish the death penalty law

The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, was recently applauded for his recent announcement. On the occasion of the Africa Day, Zambian President announced that he plans to abolish the death penalty row completely. This announcement has been met with significant positive response. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, has also supported this decision. Dr. Mahtani owned Prison Fellowship Zambia is a noted Christian Outreach Program. Prison Fellowship has three major missions. The first mission is to bring the teachings of Almighty Jesus Christ to the prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. The second mission is to ensure transparent criminal justice for the inmates, ex-inmates and their families in Zambia. The third major mission is ensuring that the prisoners are not devoid of fundamental human rights and basic human dignity. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has stated that his organization Prison Fellowship will provide all legal and regulatory support to ensure that this announcement by the Zambian President turns into a reality.

There is a growing consensus towards abolishing death penalty across the globe as well as across Zambia. The last death penalty execution in Zambia was given in the year 1997 by President Frederick Chilruba. Since then, Presidents across Zambia have been avoiding the death penalty or death warrant by using mercy prerogatives. As such, the announcement by the Zambian President is a step in the right direction. This is all the more significant considering the several initiatives undertaken by the Zambian Government for strategically decongesting the prisons in Zambia. The Zambian Government has collaborated with institutes such as Parole Board Zambia and Zambian Correctional Facility for strategically releasing prisoners after their complete transformation and integration within the society. The Forbes-FIN philanthropy and leadership award was recently held in Africa. It is one of the most anticipated and noted business events in Africa. The event was halted as a result if the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. However, the Forbes-FIN (Foreign Investment Limited) philanthropy and leadership roundtable conference was held in the year 2021 in a virtual manner. Members participated in the event from their respective locations. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, was also invited in this event as an honorary speaker and discussed about the significance of leadership in healthcare. Just like Dr. Rajan Mahtani, several other members participated in this event. By breaching this agreement, Atlas Mara is liable for penalties as well as suing.

Bob Diamond is a controversial businessman due to his several connections to national scandal. The businessman had to step down from the position of Barclay’s CEO (Chief Executive Officer) after the 2012 Libor-Rigging scandal. However, he again entered the Zambian corporate in the year 2012 with his newly established banking institution Atlas Mara and his bold plan of becoming banking giant in Africa. With this mission, Bob Diamond’s Atlas Mara went on a shopping spree, acquiring several small and big banking and financial institutions in Zambia. One of these acquisitions was Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s Finance Bank Zambia which took place in the year 2015.

Regarding the claim established by Dr. Rajan Mahtani, Atlas Mara representatives have confidently said that the claim by Dr. Mahtani was without any merit. However, the reports and the timeline says otherwise. Along with Dr. Rajan Mahtani, there are several other investors who are also pursuing damages worth more than 100 million euros against Bob Diamond’s Atlas Mara. Dr. Rajan Mahtani will soon present his case at the London High Court via his hired law firm Omnia Strategy.

After Winning The Long-Standing Portland Cement Zambia Case, Dr. Mahtani’s Path To Success Is Clear

The final decision from the higher Court of Appeal on the Portland Cement Zambia case present a grim reality on the political, social and legal condition of the Zambian nation. The case was registered by a honest and ethical businessmen more than a decade ago. Irrespective of the above fact, it is the duty and responsibility of any legal and judiciary system to ensure that justice is given in a quick and transparent manner to all those seeking. However, this did not happen in case of Portland Cement Zambia limited or for Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Despite sharing all evidences and testimonials associated with the case, justice was not given to Dr. Rajan Mahtani. The judge at the Lusaka High Court was justice Mwinde who announced that Ventriglias were only shareholders of the Portland Cement factory.

As a result of this misdirected decision, the case was further taken to higher Court of Appeal by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Justice Mwinde took over the case at the higher Court of Appeal and announced that final decision will be given after looking into all evidences and testimonials. According to the evidences, it was found that Dr. Rajan Mahtani paid a sum of one billion kwachas or USD 250,000 in the year 2005 to the Portland Cement Zambia limited. This payment was made with the objective of gaining majority shareholding of the Portland Cement Zambia. Furthermore, the original shareholders’ agreement was established in the year 2007. In the page number 663 of this agreement, it was explicitly written that Dr. Rajan Mahtani has made all payment associated with the takeover of the factory and as a result, he is the majority shareholder of the factory.

Justice Mwinde from the higher Court of Appeal also discarded all forgery related allegations. After due diligence process, the final verdict was announced on 31st January 2019 in which Dr. Rajan Mahtani was announced as actual owner of the Portland Cement factory.

Zambia Reports, a so-called news portal has become the centre of attention for continuously defaming Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the former Chairman of Finance Bank Zambia. For the past years, it has constantly been trying to steal the spotlight with the aid of publishing scripts that are either written by its own writers or are fabricated with a view to defame Dr. Rajan Mahtani. The defamation campaign against Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been going on flawlessly. Not a single government official has managed to notice this and neither are they bothered to intervene the malign effort of Zambia Reports. At the moment it appears that the conspirators have found a perfect channel to have their objective fulfilled in Zambia. The latest member in this campaign is Simataa, a former employee of Finance Bank Zambia and ZR is overwhelmed with his win at the Lusaka High Court.

Simataa was employed by Finance Bank of Zambia in the past decade and the person was always in the news for the wrong reasons. People who have worked him at professional level often complaint about his poor work ethics. His actions resulted into his termination from the bank almost a decade back and since then there hasn’t been any news of his new job. Clearly indicating the fact that he has been jobless ever since. But shockingly, Zambia Reports calls this very person as an ‘expert banker’ just because he claims himself to be one. When it comes to stating facts, this was the same person who had previously failed to prove that he has passed Grade 12 in an interview.

From the recent events in Zambia, it has become clear that people are being forced to believe nuisance that is being published by Zambia Reports. Their primary targets are Dr. Rajan Mahtani and Finance Bank of Zambia. No matter what the circumstance be, they are always ready to write an imaginative story with Dr. Mahtani as the subject. However, there is only one thing that has kept the hope of Zambia alive – support of the locals.
